What is a Personal Brand? And How to Build One
Personal Brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. So how do you go about ensuring positive things are said?
A common misconception is that a personal brand is all about the individual so in this case you. Infect its quite the opposite. Your personal brand isn’t about you, or your personal accomplishments rather it is about how you can add value for other people.
Define your personal brand
The first step to creating your personal brand is defining it. Think about your target audience, what kind of people are they? Don’t be afraid to ask your target market what they value. Perform a SWOT analysis on yourself. Defining your skills will help you align yourself with your target market.
Create an elevator pitch
Your elevator pitch should be short and snappy. It should help you connect with your audience, summing up what you do and how you add value. Your pitch should ideally be no more than a sentence. Click here to read ‘5 Steps to Creating your Elevator Pitch’.
Define your values
Authenticity is the cornerstone of personal branding. Being authentic is about having stated values and being true to them. Your authenticity is what allows your audience to build trust and engage with you. Your values might be focused on accountability or driving innovation. Alternatively, they might be focused on corporate social responsibility, diversity or environmental awareness.
Keep your values at the heart of everything you do, as you interact with people. Wherever and whenever you engage, ensure you do so in a way that is aligned with your values.
